Eden

Monday 1/14/08
Depart Panama for San Andres island, connecting flight to Providencia island (aka heaven on earth)

- tourist cards completed and collected
- forget the "remain seated for the first 30 minutes of your flight" - people are doing whatever they darn well please at the moment they want to do it; reminds me of a time seemingly long ago when the world was normal :(
- drug-sniffing security dogs are everywhere, walking on luggage and wagging their tails; they are all business and have less than zero interest in silly tourists; I hope our bags have lots of pawprints on them

THIS IS NOT OUR PLANE.

THIS IS NOT OUR PLANE EITHER. THIS is our plane. Hey, it got us here in one piece! Excellent piloting.- the world sure seems different from a small prop plane; noisier, too
- latest drug-sniffing security dog is an English Setter?! sure, why not?
- "Where are your tourist cards?" "Erm, they kept them at San Andres..." "They should have given you a copy." "Erm, they didn't..."
- I get to ride in the bed of a small pickup truck on the ride to our hotel - YAY!
- people, dogs and horses in the road
- lovely homes painted in island colors
- an introduction to the island by Joe, an American from upstate New York who has lived here for two years, but who is leaving for two months in Guyana in two days....
- a late afternoon dive at Tete's, a sort of fish nursery amongst the coral heads
- dinner at Miss Mary's
